In our "throw away" society the concept of using highly decorated tins to package mundane products seems a very strange idea indeed, but fortunately because of their durable construction many items survive and offer us a nostalgic glimpse into the past.
Below are a selection of some of the 200+ tins I have in my collection which contained products such as sweets, biscuits and tobacco. Old names such as "Dainty Dinah", "Thorne's" and "Radiance" are represented alongside "Mackintosh's" and, of course, the ubiquitous "Oxo" cubes.
